Israel’s Agriculture in Brief

Since Israel’s early days, the country’s agriculture sector has been obliged to provide its population with advanced solutions in order to meet the growing food requirements as the population grew. Situated in one of the world’s most arid regions, Israel pioneered and led the concepts of drip irrigation, recycling, purifying and reuse of wastewater for agriculture purposes. Based on its extensive and practical experience, Israel has been for many years in the forefront of supplying numerous markets with cutting-edge agriculture solutions.

Israel’s agricultural sector is characterized by an intensive system of production stemming from the need to overcome the scarcity in natural resources, particularly water and arable land. The constant development and growth in the agricultural sector is due to the close cooperation between researchers, farmers and agriculture-related industries. These factors develop and apply new methods in all agricultural branches with government support. The result is modern agriculture in a country more than half of whose area is desert.

Israel’s agricultural success is a combination of sophisticated, applied science, rugged determination and government support that have helped Israel’s farming industry to modernize and adapt to changing geopolitical, market and climatic conditions, giving them a strong base from which to proceed in the coming decades.
