In December 2021, ECHA’s Committee for Socio-Economic Analysis (SEAC) endorsed Germany’s proposal to restrict undecafluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA), its salts and related substances. In June 2021, the proposed restriction was also supported by ECHA’s Committee for Risk Assessment (RAC). For further information, please follow this link. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) will continue to be covered by ECHA’s work also next year, with the restriction proposals for PFAS in fire-fighting foams and a broad proposal tackling the whole PFAS class both being expected in 2022. This is line with the European Commission’s commitment under the Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability of October 2020 to phase out the use of PFAS in the EU (unless if essential for society).
