Updates to the Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement

The Canada-Israel Free Trade Agreement (CIFTA) that was signed over 20 years ago is being updated to include chapters on labour and the environment, gender, small- and medium-size enterprises, and provisions on corporate social responsibility. Eli Cohen, Israel’s Minister of the Economy and Trade will join Canada’s Trade Minister, François-Philippe Champagne, for the announcement this afternoon. Since the original signing of the CIFTA, trade tripled to reach $1.7 billion in 2017 between Canada and Israel. Top exports from Israel to Canada include electrical and electronic equipment and industrial machinery. From Canada to Israel, exports include include aircraft parts and industrial machinery.
