Canada expected to wrap up new free trade agreement with Israel by July: source, and lead trade mission

Canadian trade officials will head to Israel this summer where they’re expected to wrap up a new free trade agreement between Israel and Canada, sources said Thursday.

Negotiations on the pact have been underway since Stephen Harper’s official visit with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in January, 2014.

The new agreement would expand on an existing deal signed in 1997, giving more opportunities to “Canadian agriculture, agri-food, and fish and seafood companies in the Israeli market,” according a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office last year.
