Israel is known for its strong medical and technological industries, and has made significant contributions to the field of medical innovation. Here are some examples:
- PillCam: This is a wireless capsule endoscopy technology developed by Given Imaging, an Israeli company. The PillCam is a pill-sized camera that is swallowed by the patient, and takes pictures of the digestive tract as it passes through. This is a less invasive alternative to traditional endoscopy procedures.
- ReWalk: This is a robotic exoskeleton developed by an Israeli company of the same name. The device enables people with lower-limb paralysis to walk again by providing powered hip and knee motion. The ReWalk has been approved by the FDA for personal and rehabilitation use.
- Nano Retina: This is a retinal implant developed by an Israeli company of the same name. The device is designed to restore vision to people who have lost their sight due to degenerative eye diseases. The Nano Retina uses nanotechnology to create a small chip that can be implanted into the eye and stimulate the remaining healthy cells in the retina.
- MobileODT: This is a mobile colposcope developed by an Israeli company of the same name. The device is used to screen for cervical cancer, and can be used in low-resource settings where traditional screening methods are not available. The MobileODT uses a smartphone and a special attachment to take high-quality images of the cervix.
- Dario: This is a blood glucose monitoring system developed by DarioHealth, an Israeli company. The device is used by people with diabetes to monitor their blood sugar levels, and can also track physical activity, food intake, and medication use. The Dario system connects to a smartphone app, providing real-time feedback and personalized coaching.
These are just a few examples of the many medical innovations that have come out of Israel. The country’s commitment to research and development, combined with its strong entrepreneurial culture, have made it a hub for cutting-edge medical technology.
