China is giving green light to importers based in Guangdong province to import solid waste (excepting waste paper) as raw materials at a nearby port of entry from this September, according to a joint announcement from the MEP and the GAC last Friday.
The MEP’s decision has been made to streamline the declaration procedures regarding Article 15 of the MEP Order 12 (“Measures for the Administration of Importing of Solid Waste”), the country’s primary legislation on solid waste importation. It stipulates that, “The application and approval of the importing of solid waste should adhere to the principle of risk minimization, in which case, Customs declaration at ‘a nearby port’ should be implemented”.
