The World’s plastic problem is bigger than the ocean. There are an estimated five trillion pieces of plastic floating on and in the world’s oceans. Burning of plastic in the open air, leads to environmental pollution due to the release of poisonous chemicals. The polluted air when inhaled by humans and animals affect their health and can cause respiratory problems. Globally, it is estimated that over 100 million marine animals are killed each year by plastic waste.
India is addicted to plastic. It generates over 4,354 tonnes of such non-biodegradable waste every day and 1.5 MT of plastic waste every year, according to a report by the Central Pollution Control Board.
In order to overcome this globally threatening issue, an Israeli Company, viz. Solutum, a young innovative Cleantech Start-Up that targets one of the world’s major challenges – plastic pollution, have developed an innovative biodegradable new raw material to replace plastic. Ms. Sharon Barak, CEO, after years of research and hard work, have found a unique product, that looks and functions like plastic, but not plastic at all. This product when put in water, dissolves completely and so environmentally friendly, that it is potable too. From this material, we can make bottles, food packaging, coverage and anything. This material can make the world a better place and cleaner.
Israeli companies excel in providing cutting edge technologies and enhance R&D services for business opportunities. Companies in India can benefit from such innovation.
