When compared to other threats of humanity, if anything kills over 10 million people over the next few decades, it’s most likely to be a highly infectious virus. Coronavirus or as we say Covid 19, has brought the world to its knees. Businesses have been shut, schools and colleges are closed, travel banned. The whole world complete lockdown created opportunities. Covid-19 may have turned our lives upside down but it has certainly provided an opportunity/Chance for all of us to rise to the occasion during these testing times.

Covid has given Chance a huge lift to online learning both in the metros and non-metros. Online education, for instance; chance for upskilling on courses like cyber security, cloud, DevOps, AI and data science have witnessed a jump of 15% Schools have ensured that virtual classroom looks like normal classrooms with hours filled with activities and homework. Company that provides marketing data and analytics to enterprises; media and advertising agencies. Significant jump in online news consumption across the world, communication apps are being embraced by even the cynics, and binge-watching has become the new stress buster. Global World Index substantiates by acknowledging the surge in online consumption which is seen across age groups.

Change in the society that we have become more hygiene conscious, the ritual of washing hands, sanitizing things before use, that started as a compulsion is becoming a habit. While the increasing number of cases of COVID-19 has created a huge panic in the country, the government has reached out to Israel, the all-time ally of India, for medical tech solutions to improve the prevention, detection and treatment of coronavirus.  The list of COVID-19 technology listed by DST includes Contact-free Monitoring Solutions by EarlySense which provides continuous touch-free monitoring of a patient’s heart rate, respiratory rate, and movement, enabling clinical teams to detect and address early signs of deterioration, including falls and pressure ulcers.

Keeping in mind social and many worried about their elder parents staying alone in other cities, the ‘Smart Remote Caregiver for Aging at Home’ by Kytera provides insight into seniors’ activity at home. The solution includes a home system that collects data, a mobile app for family members and a dashboard for professional caregivers. Neura, a human behaviour platform enabling governments and health organizations to monitor and control the spread of COVID-19 by applying digitalized detection of infection chains. 

India and Israel have a joint USD-40-million Research and Development (R&D) fund managed by DST in India. The two countries have been collaborating on R&D in various sectors.
