Overview of Renewables & Storage in India
Drastic de-carbonizing existing energy systems by investing in Renewable Energy Systems including Solar at an unprecedented scale and pace is required to address global warming.
Top growing renewable markets propose to be integrated into the grid, diesel optimization, solar rooftop, distribution utility storage. The stationary energy storage market in India is expected to grow at a CAGR of about 8 percent during 2020-27, according to a report by India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA).
India has a target of 175 GW of renewables by 2022. As the country transitions more towards renewable energy sources, it is becoming imperative to ensure grid stability. One of the solutions for a balanced grid is energy storage batteries. The 100 MW capacity power reserve, runs on a lithium-ion battery.
The report, the latest edition of IESA’s Stationary Energy Storage Market Overview, has taken 2019 as the base year for the estimation and the forecast period. In 2019, the market size shrunk to 21 GWh from 24GWh, primarily due to lower sales in the larger markets such as telecom and inverter batteries in 2018. India Energy Storage Alliance expects 6.1% annual domestic market growth by 2026.
