Solar thermal energy (STE) is a form of energy and a technology for harnessing solar energy to generate thermal energy or electrical energy for use in industry, and in the residential and commercial sectors.  Solar thermal technology uses the sun’s energy, rather than fossil fuels, to generate low-cost, environmentally friendly thermal energy. This energy is used to heat water or other fluids, and can also power solar cooling systems.

Solar thermal systems differ from solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, which generate electricity rather than heat.  Solar thermal systems drive business value by providing reduced utility bills, reduced carbon footprints, and compliance with sustainability mandates.

Solar thermal energy is helpful in the process of drying products such as wood chips and other forms of biomass by raising the temperature while allowing air to pass through and get rid of the moisture.

TIGI an Israeli company provides environmentally friendly and cost-effective solutions for the tremendous need for heat, including in cold climates and demanding applications viz. space heating and industrial process heat.  The Honeycomb Collector, a new breed of solar-thermal (water heating) collectors that turns sunlight to heat is unique in minimizing energy losses to the environment, resulting in very high efficiency and economic value. TIGI provides a solution at a fraction of the energy cost vis-à-vis the alternative energy market as 40% of the total end use of energy goes towards water heating for sanitary needs and towards space heating. TIGI’s solution can easily be retrofitted to most existing users’ heat systems.

Brenmiller Energy, is also another Israeli Company in Storage based generation, uniquely hybridizing energy sources like solar, biomass, or any other heat source, their power plants can cover base load demands in a clean and effective manner.

India may benefit from the experience and technology, Israel and Israeli technologies have to offer in these areas. For further information, relevant contacts are invited to be in touch with the Economic and Trade Department at the Israeli Consulate in Bengaluru.
