SolarPower Africa, a subsidiary of the Israeli company Solar Power has been appointed by Anglo American to construct a 240 KWp grid connected ground mounted photo voltaic system at the Kriel Colliery in Mpumalanga. The project is the brainchild of Archie Taylor of the Anglo American Kriel Colliery, and will provide electricity to the central administration offices at the mine.
“We are proud to be associated with Anglo American on this ground breaking project for the mining industry in South Africa”, said Darren Hollander, the CEO of SolarPower Africa, in a statement to the press.
Mines do not have sufficient sources of electricity and are now looking to other sources to provide them with electricity. Once such source is PV, as well as many other forms of renewable energy are being investigated.
SolarPower Africa has partnered with WOESA Energy to provide energy solutions to mining companies. The WOESA Group of companies was started with the aim of facilitating and promoting business opportunities for and enhancing the participation of South African women in the oil and energy sector. Woesa Energy is a subsidiary of the WOESA group, which is focused on delivering long lasting energy solutions.
In coming to select the company that will install your photo voltaic system, which is supposed to operate and yield income for more than 25 years, there is a great deal of importance in selecting a company with a proven track record in the solar energy field which has already installed and connected many systems.
At this point in time, SolarPower has installed in excess of 60 Megawatts of PV globally.
SolarPower Africa and Woesa Energy wish to provide mining houses the opportunity to buy clean green electricity. SolarPower Africa will build a PV plant located near the mine and the mine will then be required to sign a power purchase agreement with SolarPower Africa for an agreed period of time.
SolarPower Africa will provide the mine with the following benefits:
• The mine can create a substantial amount of publicity from the system
• The mine will have an additional source of electricity
• The mine will be able to buy clean energy without further harming the environment.
SolarPower was founded in 2003 and since then it has been a leader in the field of the supply of photo voltaic solar energy solutions in Africa and around the world.
SolarPower has a great deal of experience and knowledge in the design, establishment and maintenance of hundreds of photo voltaic systems (systems connected to the electricity grid as well as off grid systems) and does this through the most highly skilled and experienced team of personnel.
SolarPower has provided solutions to global multinationals including Intel, Hewlett Packard, MTN, Orange and many others.
