Like South Africa, Israel enjoys an abundance of sun. But, Israel has harnessed the sun together with the unique “Innovation Nation” spirit to become a powerhouse in renewable energy, smart grid and energy efficiency. For many years it has been mandatory by law that any new development will have solar geysers. Therefore solar geysers have a household penetration rate of more than 95% accounting for about 4% of the energy consumption and close to 10% of household consumption. But geysers are just a small example of what happens when a small nation sets its mind to something. Israeli companies are today among the world leaders in CSP (Concentrated Solar Power), PV (Photo Voltaic), smart grid and smart metering, energy efficiency and much more.
It is therefore no surprise that the Israel Energy Week draws the top players from around the world. This bi-annual event will take place this December in Tel Aviv and Eilat, a resort city bordering the desert and the tip of the Red Sea. The event is made up of a number of events including among others (see here for full program):
- Eilat Eilot Sustainable Energy Conference – Leaders from all ends of the energy spectrum come together to discuss everything sustainable. Alternative fuels, water-energy, distributed energy generation, and energy efficiency top the long list of topics.
- EnergyVest Summit – This event is tailored to investors eager to meet the wealth of cutting edge Israeli energy companies up close. Features addresses by leading international cleantech investment groups and a chance to get in early on the upcoming companies and technologies.
- Smart Energy Summit – The conference will explore the latest developments in smart grid, hosting world industry leaders.
- Fuel Choices Summit – Part of the government initiative dedicated to reducing the world’s dependency on oil for transport this summit investigates the role of alternative energies in transportation. During this conference the Israeli PM will award the 2nd annual $1 M Eric and Sheila Samson PM’s Prize for Innovation in Alternative Fuels for Transportation.
