The Scandinavian airline SAS submitted an official request to operate direct flights from Ben Gurion Airport to Stockholm in Sweden and Copenhagen in Denmark, starting in January 2024. This is about three weeks after the first publication in “Israel Hayom” , according to which the company signed a code share agreement (code partnership) with Israel’s El Al .
Another airline that submitted a request to operate direct flights to Israel is TUI, which is actually a kind of alliance of several airlines, all of which together have more than 100 planes. The company operates flights to many destinations throughout Europe including Germany, Great Britain, France and the Netherlands. The company is supposed to operate direct flights from Israel as early as this November, and it is possible that it will do so even earlier.
Another first announcement comes from Sri Lanka, after it became clear that a Sri Lankan airline has expressed interest in operating direct flights to Israel. If things do come to fruition, we may see direct flights to one of the most beautiful and fascinating destinations in the world. In addition to this, the Israeli company Arkia is also making progress towards operating direct flights to the destination, and if there are no surprises – we may see direct flights of an Israeli airline to the favorite destination.
The direct flights to the destination are very short at the moment, and if these do come to fruition, the flight time will be about five hours, thanks to the agreement that allows Israeli airlines to fly over the skies of Saudi Arabia and Oman. Sri Lanka is considered an inexpensive destination with spectacular beaches and exceptional cuisine.
