LDCs get 8 more years to protect IP

WTO members agreed to extend until 1 July 2021 the deadline for LDCs to protect intellectual property under the WTO’s TRIPS agreement, with a further extension possible when the time comes.

WTO Director-General Pascal Lamy said: “The agreement reached by members makes very clear that we can come together and get things done. This is the spirit we will need to see in full display over the coming months in order to produce a meaningful outcome to the Bali Ministerial Conference in December.”
